Iceland Land of Ice and Fire - 2 days by Air < Back

The longest mountain range in the world is mostly underwater, it stretches from Greenland almost to the Antarctic and its titanic forces are pushing America and Europe apart at about the same rate your fingernails grow. At the northern end of this colossal submarine ridge a fresh lava crust rears up from the ocean waves and on top of this sits Iceland.

Join us for an amazing 2-day weekend break to a place so strange and unique that NASA used it to practise moonwalking, a land of ancient glaciers and hissing volcanic steam, bubbling pools of boiling mud, geysers erupting hundreds of feet into the air and waterfalls crashing down on an alien, lava landscape.

You can explore the capital Reykjavik, a friendly and colourful city set between the ocean and the Esja mountains. The main shopping area of Laugavegur is brimming with culture, art galleries, museums (including, believe it or not, a penis museum), good shops and excellent restaurants. It's lively at the weekends and the bars don't close until around 4.30am. If you like architecture don't miss the supersonic-gothic Hallgrimskirkja, part church and part space-shuttle, and Perlan, the Pearl, a giant rotating hemispherical restaurant and exhibition centre.

There's an optional excursion to a world-famous volcanic spa (See Blue Lagoon), but the highlight of the break is our included Golden Circle tour of south-west Iceland, with a visit to the Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park's gorges and lava ridges. We'll take lunch at the Geysir, which has given its name to hot springs throughout the world and where there are hot springs and bubbling mud pools, and we'll see the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall and the Kerið crater lake.

With flights, transfers, quality 3 star accommodation (or you can upgrade) and special included excursion, this is a weekend break like no other, and at a great price too!
