During this Golden Age of Amsterdam, beautiful gabled houses and merchants’ mansions were built alongside the serene canals. They still stand today, making for a beautiful canal cruise. The Town Hall was also built at this time, which later became the palace of Louis Napoleon, as we know it today. Amsterdam is a city renowned for art, with the Van Gogh Museum and the country’s largest collection, including Rembrandt's Night Watch, held in the Rijksmuseum, and of course the Anne Frank House is a thought-provoking experience. Late afternoon departure.
Arrive in Holland’s second city - Antwerp. This city blossomed on the pepper market, silver and textile industries of the 16th century. It is now best known for diamonds, as the majority of the world’s diamonds are traded here, but the wealth of the past still dominates the skyline, with the towering Gothic spire of the Cathedral of Our Lady. The historic guild houses and imposing Town Hall stand out amongst other remarkable renaissance buildings along the café-lined cobbled streets. Alternatively, take an excursion to Bruges, famous for its canals and chocolate. Late afternoon departure.
